Pit Toilet

Sanitation

There are more then 180 students attending Ngateu Secondary School and only two latrines. You can fill in the picture. It was obvious that this needed to be improved. In 2008 we were compelled to design a better solution. Part of that design is tied into the completion of the water project. If it is possible that there can be sufficient water to support flush toilets, we will aim for that. If water is short, we will seek other, more effective methods to improve the current situation.

In addition, by bringing lunch to the students, Safi School Project has an added need for appropriate sanitation and disposal of food related items.

new latrines

At the close of 2010 the new latrines have been built. They include a proper septic drainage system, as well as sinks for hand washing.
